Flower care

How to care for your bouquet.

Fresh water, a clean vase and a little attention will help your arrangement last beautifully.

Five things flowers need.

Start with a clean vase and give the stems room to drink. These simple habits make the biggest difference.

Use fresh water

Fill the vase with fresh water and add the flower food supplied with your bouquet.

Trim the stems

Cut 1-2cm from each stem at an angle with clean, sharp scissors or secateurs.

Choose a cool spot

Keep flowers away from radiators, strong sunlight, draughts and ripening fruit.

Refresh the water

Change the water every two days and clean the vase before refilling it.

Keep the water clear

Remove tired stems and any leaves sitting below the water line.

The first ten minutes.

Your bouquet has travelled without a permanent water source. Give it a drink as soon as it arrives.

  1. 1Remove the outer wrapping carefully. Keep any tie holding the arrangement together if you like its shape.
  2. 2Use a clean vase and trim each stem at an angle with clean, sharp scissors or secateurs.
  3. 3Place the flowers in fresh water immediately, making sure no leaves sit below the surface.

Let the arrangement change.

Some varieties naturally last longer than others. Remove individual flowers as they fade so the rest of the arrangement can continue to open.
